It is true, I only started this blog a few weeks ago and here I am writing about bloggers at a blogging event. Go figure. This last weekend — Friday, Saturday and Sunday (May 4, 5 and 6) — I was in Boulder, Colorado at the first annual Blend Event. I was one of three or four males in a sea of woman. It was really a great event and a lot of fun! The blogger retreat organizers were fantastic but more about them later. BetterBody Foods & Nutrition was a sponsor of the event and we put on breakfast for this adventurous group of women.
The women were pleasantly surprised to learn that I had made Blueberry-Cranberry Granola bar muffins, Carrot Cake Muffins with a cream cheese frosting, peach jam and strawberry jam, all with Xagave and whole grain. That’s right, no white sugar or white flour in all the food that we prepared and served. In addition, we had bagels and whole grain bread, fruit, oat meal with all the “fixin’s” and plain Chiobani yogurt. The surprise hit was the Jam. Jams made with Xagave are my favorite but I never seemed to be able to get people excited about it — until now. A number of the bloggers committed to going home and making the jam. I cannot wait to see the results.
The carrot cake muffins were also a big hit. Yes, I baked them before I traveled to Boulder and was very involved in the set up (see pictures below). I do have to give special credit to Amy Soffe, who did a wonderful job, in planning and preparing all the dishes and banners necessary for the spread. Thanks again Amy, you did a great job! One woman asked me if I had really made the muffins and the jam. I responded yes. I also told her that I enjoyed manicures and pedicures and that I was very “metro.” Her response to was that one cannot control their sexuality. “Hmmmm,” I thought the definition of “metro” was fairly well understood. It was noisy after all and maybe she did not hear what I said clearly. I just let that one slide without further elaboration.
Also, I need to acknowledge the efforts of the organizers: Lindsay, Katie and Janetha, who ran a great program. I want to thank them for letting us participate. It was a special pleasure and we look forward to participating in the Blend event next year!
Check out the pictures below to see the food and Amy’s great job in creating a very attractive display. It made good food taste even better.
Thanks to all that attended. I would recommend the Blend event to anyone and would make sure that you checked into it next year. Enjoy!
Breakfast is served on Saturday morning. Note the sugarless strawberry and peach jams. These two items got the most comments. By the way, they are virtually half the calories of normal jam and taste better!
