Agave nectar is a healthy alternative to sugar and considered by many to be one of the healthiest sweeteners in the world. Remember, a number of physicians and health professionals, including Dr. Dickinson, are recommending agave as their preferred sweetener over sugar, honey, and artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, sucralose, and saccharin. The reason is simple: agave nectar is a low Glycemic Index food (approximately 30) that will save you 25%-40% in calories without the harmful effects of sugar and artificial sweeteners. Sugar is a high glycemic food that has no nutritional value. Honey is as high as sugar on the Glycemic Index. Unlike sugar, Xagave contains natural enzymes, vitamins, minerals (including calcium and iron), and a nutritious fiber, Inulin, that provides a number of health benefits. Studies have shown that the combination of a low GI diet and a diet supplemented with inulin powerfully boosts your health, energy, and immune sytem.
Weight Loss and Management.
Agave nectar saves calories in two ways: (1) It is sweeter than sugar, so you use less and save calories; and (2) it is a low GI food with inulin, fiber, that moderates blood sugar levels and leaves you feeling more satisfied. You eat less and feel more satisfied.
Improved Energy.
Unlike sugar or high fructose corn syrup, agave will not “spike” your blood sugar levels and will let your body know that it is consuming calories. Agave contains fructose and inulin that help moderate and manage consistent blood sugar levels. Eating regular small meals of low GI foods can provide consistent energy all day long without feeling tired or hungry.
Enhanced Immune System.
Agave nectar and, in particular, inulin, improves your digestive health by stimulating growth and activity of the good bacteria while inhibiting growth of bad bacteria in your intestinal tract. Studies have shown that daily consumption of inulin may reduce frequency of fever, diarrhea, and other illnesses. Remember that 70% of your immune system is located in the gut, so a healthy gut means a healthy you.
Improved Bone Density.
Studies have shown that inulin enhances calcium absorption by as much as 20% and increases bone density by as much as 15%. If you are a woman, you know the importance of this, especially as you age. Inulin is the only substance we know of, other than calcium, that has been shown to increase bone density.
Improved Motility.
Studies have shown that daily consumption of inulin improved both fecal weight and frequency of extrication. This is extremely important as once food is digested and makes its way to your gut, it becomes toxic. The quicker you get waste out, the better and healthier you will feel and be.
Reduced Risk of Heart Disease and Type II Diabetes.
Studies have shown that low GI diets and diets rich in fiber appear to reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, and Type II Diabetes. Type II Diabetes used to be referred to as “adult-onset diabetes”; unfortunately, there is now a high incidence in children. In fact, recent studies suggest that 1 in 3 children born today will become diabetic. This epidemic is being caused because we, as a society, are overweight. Sixty-seven percent (67%) of Americans are overweight and at risk for one, or all, of the three major chronic diseases plaguing our society today (i.e. heart disease, cancer, and diabetes) Obesity is being caused by the over consumption of processed foods, with the primary ingredients being sugar (or high fructose corn syrup), white flour, and transfats. The good news is that we can improve our chances of avoiding these diseases by maintaining appropriate weight levels through diet and exercise. The simple avoidance of sugar and white flour will have a signifiant impact on your weight and health. We strongly suggest that you avoid white flour and sugar and begin consuming whole grains and agave nectar. You will be surprised at how simple and delicious eating healthy can be.
Reduced Risk of Cancer.
Recent studies of animals have shown that regular consumption of inulin has reduced the size and growth of cancerous causing lesions in the lower intestine.
Diabetic Friendly.
Agave nectar has been tested and has a GI level of about 30. This puts it in the low category and is considered “friendly” for most Type II Diabetics. But always consult your physician to see if it is right for you.
Organically Grown
The agave plants takes about 7 to 8 years to mature and the plants we use are grown under strict guidelines that meet USDA organic certification requirements. The farms and processing facility are part of a co-op of 700 farmers — we purchase our nectar from farmers that we know — not in the open market. We know where our agave comes from, who grows it, and the standards utilized.
Low Glycemic Index
Agave nectar is a very low glycemic index food. It is approximately 30 on the glycemic index scale. Anything below 50 is considered to be in the low category, which is recommended for a healthy diet. This low glycemic index rating also make it diabetic friendly.
