Agave nectar is a healthy alternative to sugar and considered by many to be one of the healthiest sweeteners in the world. A number of physicians and health professionals, including Dr. Dickinson, recommend using agave as the preferred sweetener over sugar, honey, and artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, sucralose, and saccharin. The reason is simple: agave nectar is a low Glycemic Index food (approximately 30) that will save you 25%-40% in calories without the harmful effects of sugar and artificial sweeteners. Sugar is a high glycemic food that has no nutritional value and spikes your blood sugar causing dramatic fluctuations in energy. Honey is as high as sugar on the Glycemic Index. Unlike sugar, Xagave contains natural enzymes, vitamins, minerals (including calcium and iron), and a nutritious fiber, Inulin, that help sustain energy and maintain healthy eating habits. Studies have shown that the combination of a low GI diet and a diet supplemented with inulin powerfully boosts your health, energy, and immune sytem.
Weight Loss and Management.
Agave nectar saves calories in two ways: (1) It is sweeter than sugar, so you use less and save calories; and (2) it is a low GI food with inulin, fiber, that moderates blood sugar levels and leaves you feeling more satisfied. You eat less and feel more satisfied.
Unlike sugar or high fructose corn syrup, agave will not “spike” your blood sugar levels and will let your body know that it is consuming calories. Agave contains sucrose, fructose and inulin in levels that moderate and manage consistent blood sugar levels. Eating regular small meals of low GI foods can provide consistent energy all day long without feeling tired or hungry.
Enhanced Immune System.
Much of the immune system is located in the digestive tract, so a healthy gut means a healthy you. The naturally-occurring inulin in agave nectar improves your digestive health by stimulating growth and activity of the good bacteria while inhibiting growth of bad bacteria in your intestinal tract. Studies have shown that daily consumption of inulin may reduce frequency of fever, diarrhea, and other illnesses.
Improved Bone Density.
Studies have shown that inulin enhances calcium absorption by as much as 20% and increases bone density by as much as 15%. This is especially important for women as they age. Inulin, like calcium, is a substance that has been shown to increase bone density.
The inulin in agave nectar expedites the endocrine process. Studies have shown that inulin (fiber) helps emit waste quickly, leaving the body feeling healthier and free of toxins.
Reduced Risk of Heart Disease and Type II Diabetes.
Studies have shown that low GI diets and diets rich in fiber appear to reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, and Type II Diabetes. Type II Diabetes used to be referred to as “adult-onset diabetes”; unfortunately, there is now a high incidence in children. In fact, recent studies suggest that 1 in 3 children born today will become diabetic. One reason for this epidemic is the growing rate of obesity. Sixty-seven percent (67%) of Americans are overweight and at risk for one, or all, of the three major chronic diseases plaguing our society today (i.e. heart disease, cancer, and diabetes). Obesity is caused by the over consumption of processed foods, with the primary ingredients being sugar (or high fructose corn syrup), white flour, and transfats. The good news is that we can improve our chances of avoiding these diseases by maintaining appropriate weight levels through diet and exercise. By simply avoiding sugar, we can dramatically improve our health and weight. Agave nectar is sweeter than sugar, so you will use less and stay satisfied longer, preventing overeating. Our agave nectar makes eating healthy simple and delicious.
Reduced Risk of Cancer.
Recent studies of animals have shown that regular consumption of inulin has reduced the size and growth of cancerous causing lesions in the lower intestine.
Agave nectar has a low GI score of approximately 30. Because of the low score, it is considered “friendly” for most Type II Diabetics. But always consult your physician to see if it is right for you.
Our agave plants are USDA Certified Organic. They are grown in Mexico and take 7 to 8 years to mature. The farms and processing facility are part of a co-op of 700 farmers. We know where our agave comes from, who grows it, and the standards utilized.
Low Glycemic Index
Agave nectar is a very low glycemic index food. It is approximately 30 on the glycemic index scale. Anything below 50 is considered to be in the low category, which is recommended for a healthy diet. Most importantly, Xagave’s low glycemic index score makes it diabetic-friendly.
More Satisfying and Great for Dieters
The combination of low GI and inulin make agave nectar a very satisfying sweetener. Unlike sugar, honey, or high fructose corn syrup, you’ll find your blood sugar levels do not spike; thereby avoiding the cravings and over consumption associated with highs and lows of blood sugar levels.
Versatile and Easy to Cook with
Agave is highly soluble in hot or cold water, making it easy to work with in the kitchen. It is a wonderful sweetener for coffee, tea, and cereal. It is also an amazing sweetener for cooking, canning, and baking. In our cookbook, Delicous Meets Nutritious, you will find recipes using all of our products in jams, cakes, breads, salad dressing, desserts, cookies, sauces, etc. In addition, we provide a Sugar Exchange Table on the inside front showing how to substitute Xagave for sugar (Xagave is sweeter than sugar so you can use 25-50% less). This table is also on our bottles and our website. Xagave truly is the Complete Sugar Replacement™.
Contains Calcium, Iron, and other Vitamins and Minerals
Agave nectar is a natural and organic certified product, derived from the agave plant. The nectar is processed at temperatures that do not exceed 117°F in order to prevent fermentation. This degree level is considered “Raw” by most standards. It is not derived from an animal and is appropriate for a vegan diet. Due to its raw condition, agave retains its naturally occurring vitamins and minerals and has a particularly high concentration of calcium— 17% of daily requirements in one (1) tablespoon.
